Obituary for Walter LeRoy Strauch
Walter L. Strauch, 72, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his home. His funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Mitchell United Methodist Church, with Pastor Juan Espinoza officiating. Interment will follow at the Mitchell Cemetery. Memorials in his name may be made to the family. Friends who wish may view at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and at the church prior to the service. Walter was born February 13, 1942 in Mitchell, to Phillip, Jr., and Anna (Littell) Strauch. He attended school at Sunflower until the 7th grade, and then attended Mitchell High School, graduating with the class of 1960. He also attended Western Nebraska Community College and graduated from two Dale Carnegie courses.
He married Anita Haddix and two sons were born to this marriage, Kevin and Keith. He later married Bonnie Schmidt and two daughters were born to this marriage, Kara and Brenda. On November 16, 1973, he married Juanita Snyder and their daughter Joleen was born to this marriage.
Walt worked several jobs in the valley, and in 1984, he purchased and operated his own auto repair shop, Walt’s Car and Truck Repair in Mitchell, which he operated until ill health caused his retirement in 2008. Walter loved the Lord, his family and grandchildren, and loved to fish and camp.
He was a longtime member of the Mitchell United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Mitchell Fire Department for eight years, where he had served as secretary. He was Captain of one of the grass rigs, and attended and graduated from EMT classes. He was Captain of the Mitchell Rescue Unit.
Survivors include his wife Juanita of Mitchell, two sons Kevin (Vicki) of Scottsbluff and Keith of Bayard, daughters Kara (Jamie) Nees of Cedar Rapids, IA, Brenda (Scott) Edmunds of Kohler, WI, and Joleen (Jarrod) Wetherington of Mitchell, stepchildren Deb (Larry) Eutsler of Torrington, WY, Dixie (Larry) Sanders of Colorado Springs, CO, Rex (Lorry) Carlson of Glenwood Springs, CO, Lee Carlson of Rifle, CO and Sandra Swanson of Rapid City, SD. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Nuss of Scottsbluff.
His parents, two brothers, a granddaughter Samantha Carlson and a sister Shirley Kind preceded him in death.
